there’s a misconception that grief only happens when we lose people. this is not true. we can grieve circumstances, relationships, missed opportunities. in fact, sometimes when you find yourself plagued with waves of emotion from sadness to melancholy you may be grieving yourself. the version of yourself that you might have been if things had been different, or if only you had said something, or if someone had stood up for you.

I put off making this post for the better part of a year, but the flagrant, never-ending theft of my art has really killed my enjoyment of drawing HP entirely; I literally can’t even stand to look at this Luna/Ginny comic i made anymore because it’s the piece I am constantly finding reposted without my permission or any credit to me. I actually grew to actively dislike Drarry in 2018 because I’ve unfortunately begun associating all of HP fandom and the ships I like from it with nothing but shitty art thieves and people that violate my consent so they can do whatever the hell they want with my work, regardless of whether I’m OK with it or not.
I had been intending to leave HP fandom altogether after Erised posted (since that was my last commitment as a gift exchange fest, and it would’ve felt shitty to drop when I knew someone was making something for me, too), but reading Birdsofshore’s gift fic for me was a reminder of all the things I actually used to enjoy about Drarry that I’d be sad to lose, and that this fandom is made up of more than just people who constantly exploit and violate artists and writers for their own personal gain and popularity. (though that’s definitely all it is over on instagram, hah.)
It’d be nice if I could protect this renewed interest I have in drawing Drarry and other HP characters, but maybe that’s impossible given how rampant art theft and repost culture is, especially on Instagram. I guess if it comes down to it, I could always just stop publicly sharing my HP art so I can at the very least still enjoy it for myself. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
