technically i cheated and used another color but i am prepared to break rules and life is hard. what they’re crying about is really up to the viewer but if anyone has some uniquely good ideas i’m here to listen
will anything ever be as iconic and savage as when sally jackson, percy jackson’s mother, used the decapitated head of the medusa to turn her abusive husband to stone, and then sold him as a statue to an art gallery to critical acclaim and used the resulting funds to pay to attend college and start her dream life as a writer
sally jackson is a phenomenal mother but she does a fucking lot more than bake cookies okay
this woman lost her family when she was five
this woman grew up being neglected
and then proceeded to drop out of high school to take care of the man who neglected her
and then she raised a fucking baby entirely on her own, with no family at all
a baby that had a death warrant on his head since the day he was conceived, no less
she had nothing and she worked her ass off to make a good life for her son, and she did a fucking good job of it
and then she spent years in an abusive relationship all while continuing to work her ass off and make a good life for her son, despite being verbally and physically abused about everything she did
and then she fucking got herself out of that abusive relationship, and there is nothing fucking cute about sally jackson feeling so desperate and afraid of her abuser that her only way out was to kill him okay
and then she uses her new money to get a new apartment for herself
and then she fucking saved up enough to fulfill her lifelong dream of going to college to become a writer
and she still routinely has to let her son risk his life to save the world because she knows it wouldn’t be fair of her to try and beg him not to, it’s part of who he is and she knows she needs to respect that, so instead of guilting him and giving him ultimatums, she fucking gives him her blessing
do you know how fucking hard that must be for her though? and do you ever hear her guilt him or take it out on him? n e v e r
so like fuck yeah she’s kind and beautiful and loving but she aint soft and sweet this woman is tough as fucking nails, she’s strong, she gets fucked over and over again and she still never gives up
she pulled herself out of tons and tons of extremely tedious and difficult situations even when literally all the odds were stacked against her
percy even says that there’s steel in her, that she has a rebellious streak that’s just like him
and like i really don’t wanna ever hear anyone forgetting this part of her ever again
so next time you talk about her baking cookies remember that she’s also an orphan who grew up in an abusive household, dropped out of highschool, became a single mother, survived an abusive marriage, and worked her ass off to get herself to where she is today
So this summer’s Oreo Creme filling is blue and I just keep trying to imagine Percy finding these in a super market. Maybe when he’s been away from Sally for awhile?
Sally is looking at vegetables when in the distance she hears an oddly familiar “NO WAY” and approximately 3 seconds later her son is standing in front of her, breathless, holding a package of these oreos to his chest when he manages to wheeze, “PLEASE” lmao
So I’ve been thinking, and we all know how most of the demigods don’t have a good parental figure in their life
And then there’s Sally Jackson, who, let’s be real, is the kind of person to look after all of them
Just imagine Annabeth being all nervous on her first dinner there as Percy’s girlfriend because Sally isn’t just her friend’s mom, it’s her boyfriend’s mom now
But of course Sally makes her feel at ease straight away by joking around with her and taking sides with her against Percy playfully
And pretty much from then on Sally is the mother she never had, because Annabeth loves Sally, and they spend days together doing the kind of things neither of them would ever do with Percy like going shopping
Just imagine Jason coming over for dinner sometimes and Sally hugging him hello and goodbye, and Jason has never, ever been given a hug by someone so comforting, and he can close his eyes and pretend he has a mother
And think about Sally helping Piper out with the cooking because they both love creating new dishes and just having so much fun
And Piper’s never got much affection or just been able to spend a normal day with her father, the best she got is Jane taking her to McDonald’s to buy her lunch, and she just cannot stop smiling
And Hazel, oh my gods, Hazel is so confused about modern life at first (of course) and sometimes she can’t help but feel out of place
But Sally just understands, she gently helps Hazel get used to everything, because I think sometimes we forget Hazel is thirteen and has never had a proper parental figure, and Sally gives her that
Imagine Sally reminding Leo of his own mom
Like obviously not the building things or anything, but just the way Sally goes the extra mile to make people feel better, or by just always smiling at people, and referring to them affectionately
Leo pretends like he doesn’t really care that much, but deep down he loves it
At first Frank is really shy around Sally, especially the first time when Percy invites him over
And obviously Sally can tell, so she doesn’t push it or anything
Slowly Frank gets more and more comfortable around her, especially after that time Sally helped him plan a date with Hazel and it’s pretty much the best date either of them go on
And eventually it comes to the point where if any of them have a problem or they are just feeling down, it doesn’t even matter if Percy’s there or not, they can just go talk to Sally, and she is always willing to help
Just generally imagine all the demigods loving Sally and she is able to give them what so many of them have never had
And just think of Percy seeing all of this and being so happy because he knew it all along: he has the best mother in the whole entire world
can i just have annabeth canonically basically living at percy’s place
like a moment where percy comes home from swim practice to find annabeth sprawled out on his couch and his mom in the kitchen making cookies for her. and he’s all like, “move over,” and she’s like “no, i was here first.” and percy goes “you don’t even livE HERE” and sally starts laughing from the kitchen and annabeth smiles and says, “you missed a lot when hera kidnapped you.”
